Who is responsible
Journeva is published by Shehan Chamara Withanage Perera, Willi-Bauer-Straße 35, 63073 Offenbach am Main, Germany. For anything about privacy, write to privacy@journeva.app.
What the app stores, and where
Everything Journeva knows about your learning stays on your device:
- which stories and levels you have read, and your reading streak;
- your favourite stories and saved words, with the sentence each word came from;
- your settings: learning language, preferred level, narration speed, reminder time.
None of this is sent to us or to anyone else. It is removed when you delete the app, and you can clear it at any time from Settings → Reset progress. If you back up your device to iCloud, Apple's backup may include it, under Apple's own privacy terms.
What the app does not do
- No account or sign-in of any kind.
- No analytics, no usage statistics, no advertising, no tracking identifiers.
- No access to your contacts, photos, location, microphone or camera.
- Narration uses the speech voices built into iOS, on your device. No audio or text is sent anywhere.
Subscriptions
Journeva Premium is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the purchase, payment, renewal, refunds and Family Sharing. We never see your payment details or your Apple ID; the app only learns from Apple whether a subscription is active. Apple's privacy policy applies to that transaction.
New stories
The app checks for new stories when you open it, roughly once an hour at most. To do that, it downloads small files (a story list and story pictures) from journeva.app. Like any request on the internet, that download carries your device's IP address and a standard browser-style identifier of the app version. The app adds nothing else — no account, no device identifier, nothing about what you read.
journeva.app is hosted by GitHub, Inc. (GitHub Pages). GitHub may keep short-lived server logs of such requests for security purposes, under the GitHub Privacy Statement. We do not receive or analyse those logs. If you prefer the app not to contact the internet at all, it works fully offline with the stories already on your device.
Notifications
The optional daily reminder is scheduled on your device and never involves a server. You can turn it off in the app or in iOS Settings at any time.
Crash reports
If the app crashes or hangs, iOS may record a diagnostic report on your device. Journeva keeps a small number of those reports locally and shows them in Settings → Diagnostics, where you can choose to share one with us by email. Nothing is sent unless you do that yourself, and you can delete the reports there at any time.
This website
This site sets no cookies, loads no third-party scripts or fonts, and has no analytics. It is served by GitHub Pages, so the note on server logs above applies to it too.
Children
Journeva is suitable for all ages and collects no personal data from anyone, including children. Purchases go through Apple's parental controls and Ask to Buy where those are enabled.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete and port personal data, to object to processing, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing on our side to access or delete: all your data is on your device, in your control. If you believe otherwise, or have any question, write to privacy@journeva.app and we will answer promptly.
Changes
If Journeva ever starts doing something this page doesn't describe, this page changes first and the date at the top moves. We will not quietly widen what the app does.
