The Bakery That Closed at Noon

A baker who sells out by noon every day keeps being told to grow bigger — and keeps asking what for.

Level A1 · Beginner

Marta's bakery opened at seven. It sold all its bread by noon. Every day was the same.

A businessman visited the town every week. He always bought the last loaf. He always said the same thing: "Bake more bread. Open a second shop. You could be big."

Marta always answered slowly. "Big for what?" she asked. The businessman did not have a fast answer.

In the afternoons, Marta worked in her garden. She visited her father. She drew pictures in her small book.

One day, the businessman understood. Marta's small bakery already gave her everything she wanted. She did not need more.
