The Vault in the Mountain

Deep inside a frozen mountain, humanity keeps a spare copy of its food.

Level A1 · Beginner

On an island near the North Pole, there is a gray door. The door goes into a mountain.

Behind the door, the halls are long and cold. Small packets sleep there. Each packet has seeds inside.

The seeds come from almost every country. Rice, wheat, beans, corn. Millions of packets, safe in the cold.

One country's seeds were in danger during a war. People opened the vault. They took the seeds out. They grew new plants from them.

The vault worked. It is a spare copy of the world's food. It waits there, safe, for whoever needs it someday.
