The Pocket Forest

A forest the size of a tennis court is bringing birds and cool shade back to a city street.

Level A1 · Beginner

Between a parking lot and a busy road, there is a new little forest. It is only as big as a tennis court.

Neighbors planted it in one weekend. They used a special method from Japan. A scientist named Akira Miyawaki made this method many years ago.

The method uses many kinds of trees. The trees grow close together. They grow much faster than trees in a normal forest.

The little forest cools the street. Birds come back to the area. Every year, there are more birds.

You do not need a big wild place for nature. A small forest in a city can also be full of life.
