Rhythm and Number

A physics student in London starts a doctorate in 1970, his band gets in the way for thirty-seven years, and Plato explains why the guitar was never a detour.

Level A1 · Beginner

It is 1970. Brian May studies physics in London. He starts a doctorate about space dust. He also plays guitar in a band.

The band is Queen. The music wins. The doctorate stops. He plays for thirty years. It is a joy. But something is not finished.

Plato writes around 375 BC. Music is the best teacher, he says. Rhythm goes deep into a person.

In 2007 he goes back. He finishes the doctorate. Thirty-seven years late. He is proud.
