Fifty Years Without a Bite

In September 2026 the World Health Organization certifies something that did not happen: for more than fifty years, nobody in Chile has died of rabies from a dog.

Level A1 · Beginner

Rabies is a dangerous disease. A dog's bite can carry it. People are afraid. In 1972 a person in Chile dies of it. The last one.

Then Chile vaccinates its dogs. Workers go from door to door. The vaccine is free.

Fifty years pass. Every year the dogs get the vaccine. Every year nobody dies.

On 14 September 2026 the World Health Organization gives Chile a certificate. No more rabies from dogs here. Chile is the first in South America.
