Lena is seventeen. She has a list on her phone: jobs that will not exist in ten years. Every adult adds a job. Lena is worried. Which job is safe?
On Sunday, Lena visits her grandmother Nadia. Nadia has repaired clocks in Velmar for fifty years. Lena shows her the list. "Which job should I learn?" she asks.
Nadia puts down her tools. "Wrong question," she says. "My job changed three times. Big clocks, then small watches, then old things that nobody makes anymore. Three times I thought: I am finished."
"But you are not," says Lena. "No. Four things stayed. I learn fast. I explain clearly. I work with people who are not like me. And I care about good work."
Lena walks home. Now she has a second list. It is shorter. It has four things on it. She is not worried anymore.
